What is the role of a Youth Team Manager ?

The main purpose of the job is to ensure that the Club provides a team to compete in the PHYL Youth League and Cup Competitions (where applicable).

The Manager is responsible for all aspects of activity, and safety, regarding the age group they represent.

The Manager is permitted to engage assistants as required as long as they meet the membership requirements of the Club.

 
What sort of tasks are involved ?

Tasks will include:
Start of Season

  • Registering Players for the forthcoming season

Weekly

  • Team selection.
  • Organisation of weekly coaching/training
  • Contacting opponents to arrange fixtures.
  • Organisation of transport for team matches
  • Team kit & equipment (including laundry, parents usually take turns)
  • Reporting & sending results to Divisional secretaries.

Monthly

  • Produce & maintain team accounts
  • Attend Monthly Club team managers meeting

Once each season

  • End of season report to Club Committee

 
How much time will I need to give to the job ?

Task activities on match day will, depending on the venue for the game, take up approximately 4 hours.

Coaching and training sessions each week will be about 2 hours.

Other duties associated with the tasks outlined above are spread across the week, with telephone calls, etc. and will take around 2 hours each week.

 
What else can you tell me about the job ?

The Club requires the minimum FA qualification of Level 1 Coaching Certificate for all Team Managers. The Club will assist you in obtaining the required qualification during the season if you do not already hold it.

A First Aid Kit will be supplied by the Club which you should keep replenished. Most expenses will be met by the Club as long as they are entered on to the Monthly Team Expenses sheet, with receipts, which will be handed to the Treasurer at the monthly meetings.

The Club provides all match & training equipment (and kit) if required.

Organising training sessions suitable for your respective age group by consulting the Director of Football for guidelines. This is important so that all age groups within the club are following a common training programme throughout their time with the Club.

All Club Officials and Team Managers are always available for any further assistance or advice.
